FIRST-lab owns and operates approximately 40 computers. Their first priority is the control of scientific instruments and systems. All are connected to the ETH-network, with a few exceptions. The access rights for these computers have been defined within the ETH NetNG program.
FIRST-Lab's system administrator is responsible for a effective and secure operation of these control computers. It is his responsibility to define the necessary and - from a security point of view - allowed rights, for the regular maintenance and installation of software, as well as to support the users with their IT questions.
This gives the system administrator a controlling function and makes him a special service supplier for the users of FIRST. The system administrator is the contact person for all questions about the operation of computers within the FIRST network environment.
